Classroom Component Print E-mail

Male/female instructor teams present 5 -15 sessions of abstinence education that give young people in grades 7-12 in public and private schools in Long Island the knowledge, tools and support to adopt abstinence from sexual activity until marriage.  Our age and culturally appropriate activities are based on leading abstinence education curricula including WAIT Training, The Choice Game, Optimal Sexual Health: Scientific Dimensions by the Medical Institute for Sexual Health, as well as other hands-on, multimedia activities.  All of the information we impart is based on the latest medical and social science research.

The themes covered as part of our classroom component include: Risks (sexually transmitted diseases, teen pregnancy, and other consequences of teen sexual activity), Goal Setting and Healthy Decision Making, Relationship Education (understanding personality styles in relationships, the differences between men and women, healthy vs. unhealthy relationships, love vs. infatuation, preventing sexual abuse and date rape), Drugs and Alcohol (dangers of mixing drugs and alcohol and sex), Refusal Skills (setting boundaries, developing communication and assertiveness skills), Character Development (responsibility, respect, self-control), Parent Involvement (homework interviews), and Building Self-Esteem (understanding yourself, identifying and appreciating unique qualities, and interests or skills).

Students receive a copy of our workbook and brochures, as well as prizes.

Parent Workshops Print E-mail

The Director of Curriculum and parents trained as abstinence educators conduct a 2-hour workshop for parents, How To Talk To Your Teens About Sex…Before Everyone Else Does. The workshop stresses the role of parental involvement in the lives of their children to help them to make healthy decisions and imparts to parents medically accurate information about sexually transmitted diseases, the emotional effects of unmarried teen sexual activity, and other current medical and social science research, and gives parents skills to talk to their teens about self-respect and respect of others, their sexuality, healthy relationships, and abstinence in preparation for marriage.  The workshop can be presented in English and/or Spanish.
